The Real Face of Adoption...
I want to talk about adoption for a minute.. not the wonderful experience of being chosen by birth parents and all the joys of taking your baby home...
I'm talking about the sacrifice the birth mom makes. The sacrifice her whole family makes .
So many times I'm told how amazing Jeff and I are for adopting and there is a lot of the time some negativity about the birth mom and birth family.
I've adopted 6 children , with that there are 5 birth moms who never thought they'd be in the position of having to give their baby to another woman to raise. They did not want to do this.. they each loved their children. They each wished they where in a place to raise their children. I saw their hearts break .. not only theirs but their mothers also..
these woman are not selfish. They are not bad mothers. They are selfless and wonderful mothers- they chose to put their babies happiness and well being over their own.
I've been blessed with amazing birth moms that for some reason trust Jeff and me to be parents to their children. This is a big honor and even a bigger responsibility. Also I've been honored to meet other courageous woman who chose life and adoption for their babies. It was hard but the right thing to do! Each of their stories is full of joy and heartbreak.
This picture was taken in October as we where leaving the hospital with our precious Ella . It shows the true, raw heartbreak of a mother that is putting her baby before herself!
The birth mom and I stood in front of the hospital and hugged and cried for at least half a hour.
This amazing girl knew what she was doing was right. But it was hard. So hard! She loves Ella with the same motherly love that I do. This shows that. It shows the heartache she's feeling. It was truly one of the most beautiful, heartbreaking moments of my life. I wanted so bad to put her in the car and bring her with us... I saw her mothers (the grandmothers)heart break knowing her grandchild was going to another home. I held her as she sobbed wishing so bad that things could be different.
I think it's time we change the face of adoption. Birth moms should be celebrated! Not looked down on.
They are hero's ! They chose life for their children. They make sure they have a loving home... all at the sacrifice of their own heart.
This girl loves Ella. She's proud of her. And I'm so blessed to share this precious miracle with her.
And that goes for my other birth-moms as well!!!
So please .. if you know someone who is going through adoption.. hug them. Encourage them. Let them know they they have your support.
And maybe just maybe, if we support and love these woman instead of judging, there will be less abortions and more adoptions.
